Susan began carving fine whale sculptures 19 years ago. Living in the coastal community of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, she has been inspired by the rich heritage of the sea. Eleven of those years, she worked as an apprentice with her father, the award winning artist, Ron Redden. The inspiring sense of grace, movement, power and gentleness that emerged from his chisels, were absorbed by Susan. Over the years spent working closely together as father and daughter, teacher and artist, she developed a love and respect for the endangered beings that continue to inspire her art. Susan knows that the first step in creating her fine whale sculptures, is the careful selection of quality mahogany. This with her interpretive eye as an artist and her intricate skill as a sculpture, captures their total essence. Susan's sculptures can be found in art galleries and many private collections throughout Canada and the United States. |
